The Social Action Committee of Temple Beit HaYam looks to reach out to the community at large. We are committed to tikkun olam! We assist underserved populations and coordinate with ethnic groups and other faiths to support charitable causes, programs or agencies whose focus is to improve our community.
In the recent past, the Social Action Committee has:
Held a drive for reading glasses for residents of Haiti Collected non-perishable items for local food pantry at House of Hope
Held Chanukah drives for foster children of JAFCO and Holiday toy drive for foster children of United for Families
Hosted dinners for college students building homes for Habitat for Humanity
Collected goods to benefit Safespace
Worked at a Habitat site in Indiantown
Held a Book drive to benefit Children’s Books on Tape, Inc., a literacy program
Volunteered with Big Heart Brigade handing out meals for Thanksgiving Assisted Road to Victory Military Museum with painting wooden memorials to honor fallen soldiers for Memorial Day
Supported donations to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger during Passover
Held a drive to benefit the victims of the January 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti
